A New Level Of Luxury For Lamborghini

If you’ve been lucky enough to try out a recent Lamborghini (Aventador or Huracan) you’ll know that what they offer in performance, ferocity and excitement they lack in comfort and convenience. However, the Urus presents the best of both worlds in that it offers both driving dynamism and luxury and convenience. It comes with full leather, 18 way adjustable heated sports seats, a very responsive touchscreen infotainment system with a DAB digital radio and satnav (with much, much more besides). There’s also a brand new 21 speaker advanced 3D Bang and Olufsen sound system as well as USB connectivity in the front and rear and a new ambient lighting package with 6 different colours. Finally, there’s also 600 litres of capacity in the boot! As a result, it’ll be very usable for longer journeys and daily use.

A Brand New Lamborghini Power Train

Lamborghini are well known for creating some of the best sounding cars in existence. Just take the screaming V12 from the LP670-4 Murcielago SV and, more recently, the Aventador. We also can’t forget the deeper growl from the Huracan’s V10. Over the last decade we have grown accustomed to these 2 engine layouts (V12 and V10) from Lamborghini, but the Urus brings an entirely new powertrain into the mix. The world’s first ‘Super’ Sports Utility Vehicle is powered by an engine that currently isn’t found anywhere else in the Lamborghini line-up, a bi-turbo 4 litre V8 which produces 650hp and 850nm or torque. Despite the rather high curb weight of the Urus, it’s powertrain can still catapult it from 0-62mph in just 3.6s, and it can keep going all the way to 189.5mph or 305kph.

So we’ve mentioned the impressive interior specification that is undoubtedly a huge upgrade over the Huracan and Aventador, but what about the stuff that really matters? The ‘stuff’ that makes the Urus a great car to drive…!

The Urus is fitted with a variable 4 wheel drive and 4 wheel steer system from the Aventador S and Huracan Evo (after some adjusting), that results in much sharper cornering at both low and high speeds. At the rear we find a Torsen torque vectoring differential set centrally that performs 2 functions: Firstly, it allows for a real-wheel bias of 60% that can be increased to 85% depending on which drive mode is selected. This variability caters for a variety of driving situations and moods. Secondly, its ‘torque vectoring’ ability allows the car to send power to individual wheels to further complement the 4-wheel steer system in creating a more precise cornering experience. Stability is further enhanced by a specially designed suspension system comprised of wishbones and pivot bearings which are connected to an adaptive air suspension system that can raise, lower and firm ride to suit different driving conditions. The controls to all of this are at the tips of your fingers with the new ANIMA and EGO systems. You can select one of the various performance or terrain modes and watch as the car’s character transforms entirely. The saying ‘With great power comes great responsibility’ couldn’t be more true about the Urus, which is why Lamborghini have fitted huge carbon ceramic disc breaks at each corner to give you more reassurance and confidence.
