Despite only running for just a couple of years we have already demonstrated this by expanding our fleet, with notable additions from Mercedes-AMG and Lamborghini.  In addition to adding completely new models we feel it’s time to update 1 or 2 that we have had in our fleet for a while. Our Tesla Model X has sat at the core of our lineup since the very beginning of EV HIRE and still remains one of our most popular vehicles. Recently, Tesla announced a huge upgrade package that was headed for Model X and naturally we had to learn more.

Unlike most other customer’s Tesla customer’s are used to applying regular updates to their cars, in the form of ‘over the air’ software updates, such as: improvements to user experience and efficiency or to add re-booted 80’s Atari games. As an aside, by choosing to experience our Model X you get all of this done for you, which means less hassle and the ability to experience a fully updated Model X. However, Tesla’s latest update package comes in the form of significant hardware updates, broken up into 4 main components:

More efficient design

Tesla’s latest generation drive unit technology (synchronous reluctance motors) with optimised electronics (silicon carbide) and improved lubrication, cooling, bearings and gear designs are being installed into all new Model S and X models, which result in >93% efficiency. All of these changes improve how the car drives, but also extend it’s range. This >10% increase in range is largely thanks to the placement of synchronous reluctance motors at the front and induction motors at the rear. To augment this, electricity is now discharged and recouped (via the regenerative braking system) far more efficiently than before, which means these combined upgrades provide up to 30 miles of extra range. To further compliment this extension in range, power and torque have also been increased as has the 0-62mph time for a more enjoyable, dynamic driving experience.

Faster Charging

Thanks to the enhanced powertrains (and because Tesla have kept the 100kwh battery packs in their performance models) and the enabling of 200kwh charging via V3 Superchargers and 145kwh via V2 superchargers, a massive 50% reduction in charging time has been achieved.

Fully adaptive suspension

The air suspension has been overhauled and now offers fully adaptive dampers that work in conjunction with the driver’s input and various sensors to adjust in realtime to bumpy or challenging road conditions. The new system also lowers the car automatically while cruising for better stability and aero efficiency.

Constant refinement

Finally, new wheel bearings and new tyre designs have been developed to compliment the new adaptive dampers and further extend ride, range and steering.

Naturally, after reading about these significant hardware updates (and software updates that will come later to further optimise them) we were very excited. As our Model X is one of our most popular cars and, as we said at the beginning, we want to bring our customers the latest and best versions of each car, we are proud to announce that we have added a 2019 Tesla Model X ‘Raven’ to our fleet.
