TESLA MODEL Y HIRE : AN IN DEPTH LOOK

EV Hire was first founded out of our love for exotic and performance vehicles (hence our name), but this love and appreciation also extends into the all electric world. 2 of our first hire vehicles came from Tesla, in the form of our Model S and Model X (both P100d with Ludicrous mode, of course). A lot of people still don’t understand the appeal of electric cars, such as Tesla, but when you look at their sub 3 second 0-62mph times and futuristic designs, all with the serenity and comfort of virtually silent running, it starts to make sense, at least to us. It’s probably also important to mention here that our Model X has been one of, if not our most popular hire car to date – it must be the falcon doors, if nothing else.

Tesla have recently released a new car to help complete their current line-up – the Model Y. The Model Y slots in-between the new Model 3 and Model X as a ‘crossover’ and far more affordable SUV.  Despite this, it still comes packed full of Tesla’s reliable and high performing systems. Multiple version will be made, all with their own range and output figures:

• Standard RWD: 230miles range, 120mph top speed, 0-60mph = 5.9s
• Long Range RWD: 300miles range, 130mph top speed, 0-60mph = 5.5
• Long Range AWD: 280miles range, 135 top speed, 0-60mph = 4.8
• Performance AWD: 280miles range, 150mph top speed, 0-60mph = 3.5

These can all access Tesla’s new 3^rd generation supercharger network, which means up to 168 miles of range from just 15 minutes of charging. The interior is upholstered in the same minimalistic and clean way, but now with a horizontally mounted 15 inch digital screen, 12 way electrically adjustable seats (with a seat capacity of up to 7 people), a premium sound system comprised from 14 surround-sound speakers and a sub woofer, internal internet connection, unrivalled audio and media facilities and front and rear USB connectors. As we’re talking about a Tesla we can’t forget to mention AutoPilot. The Model Y comes with Tesla’s upgraded camera, sensor and software systems to be able to facilitate even more confidence inspiring autopilot functionality, that can merge on and off of motorways, drive itself through city streets and come to find you in a car park if you cant find it.

Unsurprisingly, Tesla have offered up yet another intriguing vehicle, but the question for us is, shall we order one and be the first UK car hire company to offer Tesla Model Y hire in London? If the answer is yes, we would of course go for a high specification version of the Performance AWD, with the same 0-60mph time as a Ferrari F430.
