Tesla Model S P100D vs ICE Supercar's

Tesla Hire compared with other Supercars

It may surprise you to learn that our Tesla hire fleet competes with other high performance cars that have eye watering rental fees, in comparison to our Tesla rental fees at EV Hire. Our philosophy from the outset has been to offer accessible luxury Tesla rental, with only the very best specifications.

We thought we would take the plunge and pit our flagship Tesla Hire Model S P100D Ludicrous Plus against the most widely recognised performance cars. All of these cars sport Interncal Combustion Engines (aka ICE), so it will be interesting to see whether their performance translates into comparable prices that the hire companies who carry them charge. You should find this quite revealing.

Model S P1OOD vs Ferrari’s “La Ferrari”

First off the bat is the La Ferrari. This car is undoubtedly a beast but there are some caveats to hiring one of these. When you compare it to the P100DL+ version of the Model S that we carry, the Model S actually goes from 0-60 a full 0.7 seconds quicker than the La Ferrari. This is despite the Ferrari sporting an 800bhp engine with an added electric engine delivering an extra 160bhp. Did we also mention that you would get only 16 miles to the gallon with the La Ferrari?

When you’ve parted with the princely sum of £3500+ for a day’s hire (compared to the £396 a day for a top end Model S Tesla hire fee) that’s going to smart a bit. The fact that you will be spending more time, and money, filling the La Ferrari up than enjoying it does not really compute. Let’s suppose that you want to go on a dream holiday to the south of France. You spend a week on the Riviera, leaving from London and driving the whole way.  That is a 1600 mile round trip

Here is the breakdown:

La Ferrari

Model S P100D

7-day hire cost

£24,500

£2,772

Estimated fuel stops

16/20 mpg

398 mile range

Fuel cost (estimated)

£928

Total cost of trip

£25,428

£2,772

We would say that taking the above into account, that’s a pretty hefty hit on the wallet. For the same price as keeping the La Ferrari for one week, you could hire a Tesla Model S P100DL+ for two months, with no fuel costs, and still have change. Did we also mention that, despite being billed as hybrid car, the La Ferrari spews out a jaw dropping 330g/km of CO2?

Model S P100DL+ vs Porsche 911 R

The 911 R has always been popular but how does it fair against our Tesla hire Model S? Well, baseline acceleration falls way behind the Model S, with the 911 R coming in at 3.8 seconds from 0-60 against the Model S at a blistering 2.28 seconds. It gets worse for the 911 R. Renting a Tesla Model S P100D means you have access to an EV that pushes out 592 bhp, trumping the Porsche 911 R’s 493bhp.

Couple this with the fact that the 911 R will cost you £1200+ a day for a car that has a worse engine in bhp terms than a Tesla Model P100D. It is slower to accelerate and has a reputation for being exceedingly difficult to keep in a straight line. Hardly sounds like fun.

Let’s put the 911 R to the holiday test:

911 R

Model S P100D

7-day hire cost

£8400

£2,772

Estimated fuel stops

Once again, a Tesla rental makes more sense, both with regards to your wallet and overall vehicle performance.

Bugatti Veyron vs Model S P100D

Still regarded by some as the ultimate performance car, the Veyron runs the Model S P100D close. It bests the P100D with its 1000bhp engine, though interestingly the acceleration still doesn’t quite live up to the Tesla’s record breaking performance. Clocking in at 0-60 mph in 2.4 seconds, the Model S is still faster, achieving 0-60 in 2.28 seconds. This is despite the Veyron costing well in excess of £5000 a day to hire!

Put this car to the holiday test and it quickly becomes a second mortgage:

Bugatti Veyron

Model S P100D

7-day hire cost

£35,000

£2,772

Estimated fuel stops

At least 12

4

MPG (city/motorway)

8/15 mpg

398 mile range

Fuel cost (estimated)

Circa £1330

Total cost of trip

£36,330

It is well documented that any drive with a Veyron over 50 miles will require a refill at each point. It is also quite revealing that you can hire a Tesla with better acceleration, safety enhancements, and range for over a year, compared to price you would pay for a Veyron for a week.
