TESLA EXPANDS ACCESS TO UK SUPERCHARGER NETWORK

Tesla has announced that it will be opening up selected sites of its UK Supercharger to non-Tesla owners as part of a pilot scheme.
15 Supercharger stations with over 150 devices will be made available to non-Tesla drivers in the coming weeks. Sites that will be available include Banbury, Cardiff, Folkestone Eurotunnel, Manchester Trafford Centre and Wokingham.
Non-Tesla owners will be able to access the selected Superchargers sites through the Tesla app.
In a statement, Tesla said:
“It has always been our ambition to open the Supercharger network to non-Tesla EVs and by doing so encourage more drivers to go electric. More customers using the Supercharger network enables faster expansion.
“Our goal is to learn and iterate quickly while continuing to aggressively expand the network, so we can eventually welcome both Tesla and non-Tesla drivers at every Supercharger nationwide.”
The move has stirred controversy amongst UK Tesla owners as exclusive access to the Supercharger network has been a major selling-point for the Texas-based brand.
Tesla has said it will monitor congestion at the selected sites as already, with the popularity of switching to electric vehicles, some Superchargers sites have already experienced queues at peak times.
