SONY UNVEILS VISION-S 02 AND LAUNCH OF SONY MOBILITY
Sony Corporation has announced the next evolution of its VISION-S electric vehicle programme with the unveiling of the VISION-S 02 SUV-type vehicle at CES 2022 in Las Vegas.
Sony launched its VISION-S project in 2020 and exhibited the first prototype, the 01, at CES in April of that year. The company began road testing the prototype in December 2020 and started 5G driving tests in April 2021.
The VISION-S 02 uses the same EV and cloud platform as the 01 and the company is looking to enhance entertainment experiences within the vehicle, utilising the larger interior space of a 7-seat EV. Sony is also looking to develop and evolve the vehicle’s safety and security, adaptability, autonomous capability and entertainment systems as it plans its next move into the electric vehicle market.
Alongside the unveiling of the VISION-S 2, the company, one of the world’s largest manufacturers of consumer and professional electronics, announced the formation of ‘Sony Mobility Inc.’ in the spring of 2022.
Sony explained that the objective of the new company is to ‘make the best use of AI and robotics technologies and help realise a world where everyone can live in harmony with robots of a daily basis’. Sony is a global leader in artificial intelligence, having launched Sony AI, a subsidiary of Sony Group, in 2020.
