RIVIAN DELIVERS FIRST PRODUCTION R1S SUVS

US electric vehicle manufacturer Rivian has announced that it has delivered its first R1S vehicles. The initial production examples of the company’s SUV were handed over to founder Robert ‘RJ’ Scaringe and CFO Claire McDonough.
The all-electric R1S SUV has a range of 316 miles and an AWD capability using a quad-motor configuration. Rivian has 71,000 pre-orders for its R1S and R1T models, the latter being a pick-up truck of which over 386 have currently been delivered.
Rivian commented on social media:
“We made our first R1S deliveries last week from our factory in Normal, IL to RJ and our CFO Claire.
“We’re working towards ramping production over the next few months on our way to full volume production. Thanks to our team for all the hard work to make it happen.”
The Irvine, California-based EV company has been in the news over the past few months following its IPO in November that saw its stock price increase by over 70%. It also hit the headlines earlier in December when rumours circulated that it was in discussions with the UK government to set up a production facility in Somerset.
Amazon has placed an order with Rivian for 100,000 electric vans with delivery staggered up to 2030.
