Porsche unveils new Taycan with increased range, performance and efficiency

Porsche has unveiled its new Taycan range with an emphasis on significant increases in performance, range and charging speed across all three models.

Since its launch in 2020, the Porsche Taycan has been one of the Stuttgart manufacturer’s most popular models. Almost 150,000 examples have been delivered, with the UK, US, Germany and China being the company’s most important markets. After developing the original Taycan Sports Saloon into the versatile Cross Turismo and the energetic Sport Turismo, the company has embarked on an evolution that sees improvements in almost every area of the Taycan’s performance.

Thanks to a new motor on the rear axle, all four variants now have an additional 107 bhp and 30 lbs-ft of torque in a package that weighs 30 kgs less than the previous generation. The result of the increased power and decreased weight means that the top-of-the-range Taycan Turbo S can now accelerate to 62 mph from a standing start in less than 2.5 seconds, a time that will make this model one of the fastest accelerating cars available in the UK.

Range is one of the most important factors to consider when it comes to analysing the effectiveness of an electric vehicle. The current Porsche Taycan Turbo S has a range of around 230 miles when driven in the appropriate mode. The new range of Porsche Taycans will substantially improve on that figure.

Using a new 105kWh optional Performance Battery Plus pack which utilises modified chemistry and cooling systems, the single-motor Taycan can now travel 422 miles between charges, moving it into the category of one of the UK’s longest-range electric vehicles. It’s quicker when you charge, too, thanks to being able to recharge at speeds of up to 320kW.

The interior of the current Porsche Taycan Turbo S is one of the best in the market with large screens extending the width of the dashboard and a clear and easy-to-use central console for climate control and charging functions. The new Taycan builds on the existing foundation with even clearer graphics and enhanced functionality for Apple CarPlay. Standard equipment across the Taycan range now includes ambient lighting, ParkAssist and wireless phone-charging.

The current Porsche Taycan is an exhilarating car to drive with acceleration, when you need it, that takes your breath away. If the next generation Taycan builds on that, then it will quickly become unbeatable in the performance EV category. Moving forward, the new Porsche Taycan will become the benchmark against which all other sports EVs are judged.
