The title of this blog may be a giveaway in itself, but let’s delay our proclamation and build as much anticipation as possible, shall we?

Around 12 months ago we were joined by three automotive content creators to welcome a new addition to our self-drive hire fleet. The content creators were Vehicle Virgins, Supercars of London and Galaxy89cars. The car? The brand new Mercedes G63 AMG.

But why the G63? Before we answer that directly, let’s refresh our memories about some of the updated model’s key features.

The 2019 G63 is powered by an adjusted version of the engine at Mercedes-AMG’s core, their 4L BiTurbo V8. In G63 this power-plant produces 577bhp and 850nm of torque. Before we inform or remind you of what performance this unleashes, let’s remind ourselves how much G63 weighs. It weighs 2650kg, but let’s be honest, it hasn’t been a lightweight since it’s genesis in the 1970s. With that in mind, let’s hastily return to it’s level of performance. The 2019 G63 can sprint to 62mph or 100kph in just 4.5s and keeps going until 137mph (or 149mph if the optional driver’s pack has been spec’d). However, G63 has always been a brute with astonishing power, so it’s real allure comes from these next features.

Inside, G63 comes equipped with luxurious seats with padded headrests, high quality fit and finish throughout and there’s even a fully configurable 64 colour ambient lighting system and IWC clock. The new G63 doesn’t come with Mercedes’ new UI called ‘MBUX’, but it does come with their ‘extended cockpit’ that consists of 2 12.5 inch HD screens and an updated and highly innovative interface with an almost inexhaustible array of options. In terms of actual driving, G63 is fitted with a new and very smooth 9-speed automatic transmission and a trick suspension setup that ensures this new model only resembles it’s predecessor by the similarities in its exterior aesthetic.

After taking all of this into consideration we felt this new model had the right balance of tech, luxury and usability to balance out it’s undeniable street presence and brutish power. This is exactly why we added one (probably the first G63 for self drive hire in the UK at that) to our fleet almost a year ago.

It seems we made a very good decision in adding a G63 to our line-up as it has been one of, if not the most popular hire car on our fleet. G63 has recently been upgraded so we thought it was only right, due to the reasons above, that we stay ahead of the game and add one of these updated models to our self-drive hire fleet. ‘But what are these updates?!’ we hear you ask. During your hire of our latest G63 your front passenger can now watch TV on the car’s central screen and both rear passengers can enjoy ‘plug-in’ entertainment of their choice thanks to G63’s dual screens in the rear. The G63 is already perfectly configured for winter driving, but our car goes one step further by coming with the optional ‘Winter Pack’. This option enables you to pre-heat the car before you get in and de-frost the front windscreen faster, thanks to it’s heated windscreen.
