THE NEW G63 AMG INTERIOR - A CLOSER LOOK

Believe it or not it has been almost 3 months since we became the first UK Supercar hire company to offer the brand new 2019 G63 AMG for self drive hire in London (most probably). The exact date was September 23^rd when one of our YouTube Media partners ‘Galaxy89cars’ released their exclusive video of the collection from Mercedes-Benz Ascot. On the day we were also joined by 'Supercars of London' and 'Vehicle Virgins' who created their own unique content of this special day for EV HIRE. Since then many customers (new and old) have enjoyed experiencing our brand new G63 AMG with its exhilarating performance from its new powertrain, it’s softened, but widened exterior and brand new, modernised interior. The G63 AMG has been somewhat of an icon for some time now. Its ridiculous performance blended with old fashioned off road centred design and relative luxury found inside leads to a senseless, yet intoxicating result. However, despite providing bags of presence and raw performance it was always criticised for its ‘low tech’ approach. For their latest model Mercedes-Benz spared no expense to ensure this long-standing criticism was righted. The 2019 G63 AMG is packed full of new technology that provides both a better drive, but also helps to make it a more luxurious, well equipped and comfortable vehicle to live with. As a result, in the very brief time the ‘car’ (if we can really call it that) has been at EV HIRE HQ we have dived into its new features ourselves, in particular, the interior.

The interior has been totally re-designed with the plastic of the previous model being replaced by high quality aluminium components. Leather now coats more of the interior than before and we also find more, sophisticated piano black. Our G63 is upholstered in high quality, two-tone macchiato and black soft leather. Pure black interiors are very popular, which is exactly why we chose this light and dark combination – to stand out! We feel it also helps to compliment the cars more sophisticated interior aesthetic. Mercedes decided to widen their G63 from 1857mm to 1931mm, which makes for a very noticeable increase of 74mm. Consequently, the interior now feels a lot more spacious and comfortable (the new electrically adjustable and heated seats with their exceedingly soft and well-padded headrests may also contribute).

One of the main talking points about the new G63’s interior is the extended cockpit, which is the single component that spans from the driver’s side all the way to the central column. Formed from 2no 12.3 inch fully digital screens, it replaces the 2no analogue dials and central digital screen from the driver’s instrument cluster and floating screen for the infotainment system. Both screens are extremely configurable and provide a significant amount of information, so feel free to set the car up as you wish during your self-drive hire experience. You can find everything you need in the extended cockpit; from creating your own bespoke layout by choosing one of the 3 available options (progressive, sport and classic), setting up your favourite music via aux, USB or Bluetooth, to easily finding your go-to DAB radio station and then simply inputting your destination via the crisp, responsive and user-friendly satnav.

One feature not to miss out on is the new ambient lighting package. This is something the previous G63 didn’t come with and it was certainly lacking as a result. The foreboding exterior aesthetic can now be juxtaposed on the inside using calm and relaxing blues and purples or complimented with different shades of red. In ‘vehicle’ and then ‘light settings’ you can access the cars new 64 colour ambient lighting system, where we can go from white to different shades of: red, pink, purple, blue, green, yellow, orange and back to white. This is done using the scroll wheel found below. There are also 10 pre-set dual colour options where the ambient lighting surrounding the extended cockpit is contrasting or complimenting to the rest of the car.
