FERRARI CALIFORNIA T - THE MOST USABLE FERRARI HIRE EVER MADE?

Could this be the most useable Ferrari in history?! Quite possibly! The Ferrari California T is the entry level Ferrari sporting a front engined twin turbo V8 (also seen our Ferrari 488 GTB) but what makes the California T so special is not only the 4 seats, but the hard top folding roof. A real favourite to car enthusiasts who love the Ferrari feeling, but still need to be practical day in day out. The more I think about this car, the harder it is to find where to start. You’ve got technology passed down from the great Ferrari LaFerrari, an engine that is used in almost all of Ferrari’s current product line, and Italian looks to make every head turn. 

Let’s start with the Ferrari fans that ‘claim’ the California T isn’t a ‘real’ Ferrari. Sounds like an odd place to start. But if you haven’t experienced the exhilarating nature of pushing the throttle peddle in a Ferrari, then I think it’s important to start here. The California T is a true sports GT car. A luxury sports car that is coated in leather, pumps out 553bhp and tops out at 196mph if you were to take it onto the autobahn and give it a good thrashing. For Ferrari, it’s a move away from raw supercars, and an attempt to take on the likes of Aston Martin and Bentley with a comfortable, luxurious super-GT car, and to say Ferrari have absolutely nailed it would be an understatement. Flick the driver modes between ‘Wet Mode’ all the way round past ‘Sport Mode’ and you have two very different cars. The car can really go from being a light steering, smooth automatic, to one of the closest feelings to driving a race car in 3 moves of your fingers. I recently spent some time in America, and got my hands on the California T and was just amazed at it’s diversity but still in keeping with the Ferrari brand. 

The California T is obviously the successor to the California, a raw naturally aspirated V8 which took on the big British V12’s of Aston Martin (and won). The updates and improvements to the California T have made it an incredibly polished sports car that you really could pack up a few suitcases, throw them in the boot and enjoy a weekend away with your family. Not a sentence you’d expect when reflecting on the experience of a Ferrari. But it’s an absolute delight, and whilst at EV Hire we have a handful of some of the most exciting mid-engined supercars in production today, the California T sits right there with them when it comes to sheer excitement about getting behind the wheel. There is not better sight than looking down at the prancing horse and pushing the bright red ‘Start Engine’ button. 

Is the Ferrari California the most well-rounder car EVER?! I’d argue that it is against anyone who’d want to prove me wrong. Yes, the rear seats might not squeeze in two of your tallest mates, but when it comes down to the compromise of practicalities for the performance, it really is a beautifully balanced bit of kit. You’ve got a coupe side profile, showing off the lines of another beautiful Ferrari, a convertible for when the sun comes out, enough space in the cabin for you and 3 mates, a boot large enough to fit your bags in, but even with a full load, the car handles like a Ferrari, the V8 sound follows you wherever you go and 553bhp is enough to pull you and the next 10 cars behind you along.
