BMW LAUNCHES THEATRE SCREEN AND E INK AT CES 2022

BMW has utilised the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2022 in Las Vegas to introduce two new innovations for its next generation of EVs.
With the unveiling of the BMW iX at the world’s largest consumer electronics event, the Munich marque presented both exterior and interior developments that are set to raise the bar in EV design in the future.
The BMW iX featured E Ink, a technology that uses digitisation to adapt the exterior of the vehicle to different situations and the wishes of the occupants. This means that the surface of the car can vary its shade at the prompting of the driver.
The colour changes are made possible by a specially developed wrap that brings different colour pigments to the surface when stimulated by electric signals.
The technology is being introduced to allow drivers to change the exterior colour of their car depending on their personal preference or weather conditions, Drivers could choose, for instance, a white exterior colour on sunny days to reflect heat and help cool the cabin.
“Similar to fashion or the status ads on social media channels, the vehicle then becomes an expression of different moods and circumstances in daily life,” said Stella Clarke, Head of the E Ink project.

BMW is also moving ahead in infotainment with the launch of Theatre Screen, which offers rear seat passengers an entertainment experience similar to a cinema.
The BMW Theatre Screen is a 31-inch panoramic display with smart TV functions and a resolution of up to 8K. The intention is to transform the rear of the interior into a private cinema lounge with surround-sound and 5G connectivity.
“We develop immersive, digital experiences for sheer driving pleasure,” said Member of the Board of Management Frank Weber. “With the 31-inch display, 5G connectivity, 8K resolution, surround-sound and individual streaming program, an unprecedented experience is created that sets new standards for in-car entertainment.”
Multiple EV manufacturers have presented new vehicles and technology developments have used CES 2022, which ends on Saturday January 8, demonstrating the pace at which the electric vehicle industry is evolving.
